Students at Templestowe Park enjoy a range of excursions, as well as other special activities conducted at the school. These excursions are directly related to student learning programs at each grade level and vary from year to year.
Prep – Grade 6 Camp Program
The camping program at TPPS is an essential and extremely popular part of the school curriculum. The following table outlines the camping program for students at each year level.
Prep
Our Prep students have their very first camp experience in an after school event that takes place on school grounds. Starting at 4:30pm, the students will participate in active activities and then have a BBQ dinner.
Grade 1
Our Grade 1 students have their very own Movie Night in the school library. Our students come back after dark in their pyjamas and watch a movie with their classmates on the big screen. A special pizza dinner is a highlight of the night.
Grade 2
Our Grade 2 students have a special excursion after school hours. This includes sporting, cultural or fun activities at an outside venue. Our students also enjoy dinner with each other on this camp. Our students return to school after the experience and head home. The Grade 2 camp is designed to provide our Grade 2 students with an after dark offsite experience to prepare them for their first overnight camp in Grade 3.
Grade 3
Our Grade 3 students participate in their very first overnight experience at Camp Oasis in Mount Evelyn. The one night adventure camp is the perfect step into our offsite camping program. Our students participate in a range of adventure and cultural experiences. The reptile encounter is a highlight!
Grade 4
Our Grade 4 students head off on a two-night adventure to Camp Wilkin in Anglesea. Our students participate in a range of adventure and beach activities. The camp takes place later in the school year, so the weather is perfect for outdoor and beach activities.
Grade 5/6
Our Grade 5/6 students attend the same camp on a two-year rotational program.
Alexandra Adventure Resort – even years
Our Grade 5/6 students spend two nights at this beautiful rural camp 1.5 hours from Melbourne. Our eldest students participate in canoeing, flying fox, giant swing and the high ropes. On the way home we visit Healesville Sanctuary to learn about our native animals and conservation.
Sovereign Hill – odd years
Our Grade 5/6 students step back into the 1850s as they spend two nights staying at the working museum of Sovereign Hill. Our students participate in the Costume School experience and get to dress up like a child from the 1850s, go to school in a historical classroom and become part of the museum. They also undertake an underground mine tour and attend the ‘Aura’ sound and light show where they experience a 90 minute high impact, graphic presentation which explores the creation, discovery and impact of gold then and now. The Sovereign Hill experience brings history learning to life for our senior students.
