Templestowe Park is recognised as a state leader in the provisions for high ability students. In 2023, TPPS was named as a finalist in the Victorian Education Excellence Awards for outstanding provision for high ability students. Our passion for providing every student with rich and powerful learning opportunities is evident through the extensive learning enrichment programs we offer our students.
Target Teaching – Highly able students are selected to attended ‘target teaching’ sessions with our Enrichment teacher. These sessions cover problem solving, writing extension and entry into academic competitions.
Victorian High Abilities Program - Highly able students from Grade 5/6 participate in academically challenging ten-week online courses in Mathematics and English with students from across Victoria.
APSMO Maths Olympiad: Our high achieving Grade 5 & 6 students participate in this problem-solving event and compete against the greatest young mathematicians in Australia.
MAV Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) - Templestowe Park participates in the Mathematical Association of Victoria’s (MAV) MTQ. Classes and students select their own topics and undertake a mathematical investigation. TPPS is one of the highest achieving schools in Victoria in the competition with numerous Outstanding School awards, State champions and National finalists.
MAV Maths Games Day – Selected Grade 4, 5 & 6 students participate in a special Games Day against other primary schools. The focus is on mathematical problem solving and games.
APSMO Maths Explorer – Selected students in Grade 3 & 4 participate in the problem solving competition throughout the year.
Debating team: Talented debaters from Grade 5/6 represent the school in the Debaters Association of Victoria Debating days.
JMSS Little Scientists, Big Science: Selected students are chosen to attend the Sir John Monash Science School (JMSS). This program is aimed at providing primary school students with the opportunity to explore science through experiments and content ranging from biology to nano-technology.
JMSS Mini Mathematicians: Selected students attend the JMSS to participate in their much sought-after program 'Mini Mathematicians'. The program is aimed at providing primary school students with the opportunity to explore mathematics and problem solving like real mathematicians do.
Biannual TPPS Writers’ Festival – All students submit their favourite writing piece to the TPPS Biannual Writers’ Festival. Student pieces are shortlisted and then a panel selects entries from Prep – Grade 6 to be published in a professionally designed collection. All winners receive this publication.
