Gifted and Talented
Gifted & Talented Programs
It is our goal at Templestowe Park PS to cater for the individual needs of all students. This includes students that are performing above the expected level. We are proud of the rich learning experiences we offer all students and the wide opportunities that our learning programs provide. To cater for our many highly able students we offer extensive opportunities to them to be engaged, challenged and extended in their learning.
As well as our differentiated classroom practices and specialised extension classes for students from Grades 3-6, we provide opportunities for our students to participate in a wide range of competitions and events that challenge and inspire them. They include the following enrichment programs:
Maths Olympiad: Our high achieving Grades 5 & 6 students participate in this problem-solving event and compete against the greatest young mathematicians in Australia.
Maths Talent Quest (MTQ:) Our Foundation, Grade 1, Grade 3 and students participate in this open-ended mathematical investigation competition. Our best projects are entered into the State-wide competition. Stay tuned for details about our MTQ exhibition.
Maths Games Day: Our talented Grades 5 & 6 students participate in a special Games Day against other primary schools. The focus is on mathematical problem solving and games.
Science Talent Search (STS): Our Grades 2, 4 and 6 students participate in the Science Victoria STS. Our very best entries will be entered into the state-wide competition.
Debating: Our top public speakers from Grades 5 & 6 are invited to attend a workshop provided by the Debaters Association of Victoria. Teams will then be selected to represent Templestowe Park in the Primary School State-wide Tournament.
Junior & Senior Coding Club: The coding club is for students across the school to develop their coding skills. This provides our students with a solid foundation on their journey to learning how to create computer software, apps, games and websites.
RoboGals: A selected group of students are given the opportunity to explore robotics. RoboGals is run in conjunction with the Monash University chapter of RoboGals Australia. Students will build and program Lego robots that can navigate a course and solve problems.
Little Scientists, Big Science: A small group of talented students will be chosen to attend the John Monash Science School (JMSS). This program is aimed at providing primary school students with the opportunity to explore science through experiments and content ranging from biology to nano-technology.
Mini Mathematicians: Students will attend the John Monash Science School (JMSS) to participate in their much sought-after program 'Mini Mathematicians'. The program is aimed at providing primary school students with the opportunity to explore mathematics and problem solving like real mathematicians do.
UNSW ICAS: Students from Grades 3 - 6 take part in these tests to challenge and measure themselves against students from across Australia. We have had outstanding success in this competition, with Libby B (Grade 6) achieving the highest English score in Victoria in 2015.
TPTV: Our Grades 5 & 6 students are provided the opportunity to write, direct, produce and edit their very own TV show in our specially designed studio.
